Pre-computed scans are scans developed by technical experts and are run on the HUBB server each day at the end of trading. The results are saved and can be accessed at any time by users. The results are always ready for immediate download and display.
Click on the Pre-computed Scans button in the Scanners toolbar button's drop-down menu to open the work page.
Pre-computed Scan selection and results display both take place on the work page:
There are five pre-computed scan types, each with its own tabbed page in the scans selection area:
Click on a tab to display its contents in the Pre-computed Scans Selection area.
It contains a table that summarizes the results for each scan type.
The scan types tables are further divided into scan type Groups. These groups can be collapsed/expanded using the +/- control boxes each group's header row.
It contains three columns of details for each scan type:
The List Name is the name of the HUBB pre-computed scan used to create the results list.
Select one to view the full Pre-computed Scan Results List at right.
The Date column will show the data date used by the server to create the scan results appearing in the current results list.
Normally the pre-computed scans are run every market day.
When scan results for a date different from the current date is retrieved, this column will indicate the date of the scans.
The number of results the scan detected, all will appear in the results list at right.
Scan results can be viewed either by individual scan type results, or by combining two or more scan type results in an Intersection, meaning the results displayed must all have positive results for all the selected scan types.
Intersections are defined using the check boxes in front of each scan type in the Pre-computed Scans Selection Area.
As soon as one check-boxed is selected, the Displaying Intersection For list will appear at the bottom of the Pre-computed Scans Selection area together with the Clear button.
Each selected Scan Type, together with its Scan Type Grouping in brackets, will be listed.
Any number of scan types can be selected, but users should employ some logic in defining the intersection, for example some scans are better for long trades than short, etc.
When an Intersection is defined, its components will be displayed in the Intersection Definition area, and the results that are common to all the selected scan types will be calculated and displayed in the Pre-computed Scans Results List on the right.
To resume viewing results for only one scan type at a time, click the Clear button in the Intersection Definition area, then double click on a scan type to display only its results in the Pre-computed Scans Results List on the right.
For each pre-computed scan type, there will be an entry in the Pre-computed Scan Selection Area on the left.
To view the results for one type at a time, select a scan type from the Pre-computed Scans Selection area on the left and left mouse click once.
A list of the results for the selected market and day will be displayed in the Pre-computed Scans Results List on the right.
Each row in the Scan Results List contains the details for the symbol which satisfied the scan type's scan criteria.
These results can be altered using the following tools in the function bar:
Select a new Market from the drop-down and the results for that market will be retrieved and displayed.
The Use Current Data check-box is the default setting. This will retrieve the most recent date's data for the selected market.
Enter a new date (using the DD/MM/YYYY format) into the Search Date text box (or use the drop-down calendar selector tool) and click Enter to retrieve the results for that day.
Note - If a non trading day (for example Saturday, Sunday or a holiday) is selected, a warning box "Cannot find results for DD-MM-YYYY" will display.
The Optionables check-box toggles the display between all securities and only those securities that have options listed for them.
Toggle between Daily and Weekly in the intervals selection box to show results for the scans on weekly or daily charts. When the price chart for a weekly result is opened, the chart and its indicators will display, likewise when Daily is selected, only results calculated on a daily basis will be displayed and the display will be in daily charts along with the indicators used to identify the formation.
Note - Fresh scans will be loaded into this list each time you open a pre-computed scan page if the Update Data when new window is opened setting is checked (this is the default setting) in the Remote Data dialog of Application Settings.
In the Pre-computed Scans Results List each row contains five links or data field for each result:
The first column contains the following indicators:
For Elliott Wave results the Trigger indicator will appear on the first trading session that the symbol was returned as a positive result. This allows users to readily identify new Elliott Wave results in order to pay particular attention to them.
The Watch indicator is applied to Elliott Wave results that remain positive for more than one consecutive trading session, and to all other results of other pre-computed scan types.
Click the Chart icon to open the symbol in a Price Chart work page.
The Fundamental icon links to that symbol's fundamental data details in the Experts Analysis tabbed page of the ValueGain feature set's Single Stock Analysis work page.
The Symbol for the result is displayed.
The Description is the full name of the company or security.
Scans are performed on a national market basis. For some markets, such as the United States, there are a large number of exchanges. The name of the Exchange on which the security is traded is displayed in this field.
The Pop-up menu provides quick access to other Integrated Investor features for each listed result.
Select an individual result from the list and single right mouse click to open the Pop-up menu.
Use the commands in the menu to access price charts and specific information about each symbol in the results list or to print the currently displayed list.
The following option trading related commands are found in the Pop-up menu.
Click on the following links to go to the topic for each command's feature:
For more information on these features, go to the help topics for each one.
Click the Print Results command to print the current pre-computed scan results table.
Go to the next section of this topic for more information on printing scan results.
A number of commands are available in the function bar to manage the results and use the result's data.
DoD Refresh button
Use the Refresh button to retrieve the most recent list of available scans.
Check the Date column in the Pre-computed Scans Selection Area to confirm the date of the data used by the server to create the scan. If it is not up to date, or if it is not the date you have selected using the Search Date selector, run the DoD Refresh function to retrieve fresh scans.
The Action menu is similar to those found in the user-defined scans Search Results page.
Detailed information and charts for selected symbols can be opened, and the list can be saved or printed.
The Action menu also contains an important data management tool, the Delete all off-line content command [see description below].
Select a result from the results list. The Actions for ... command will become active and change to Actions for "Symbol". The following command will then be available in the sub-menu for the symbol: Display Price Data table, Convert to Price Chart, and Open the symbol's floating Information dialog box.
This import data management tool has a global effect on all pre-computed scan data previously downloaded and cached locally on the PC.
While all pre-computed scans are available to be downloaded from the server, each download is saved on the local PC and if that particular scan is referenced in the future, the system will first look to retrieve it from the local directory, and if it cannot be located there, then retrieve it from the server.
This increases the speed of response and is more efficient.
Normally there is no need to remove the locally saved data.
If however, the data either needs to be removed (perhaps for resource reasons) or the data has become corrupted and must be replaced, all of the previously downloaded pre-computed scan data can be permanently erased by the Action menu's Delete all off-line content command.
After all the data is erased, the process of retrieving data from the server, displaying it and saving it locally will recommence. During the period that the local database is being repopulated, the need to retrieve all data from the server will lower performance.
Pre-computed scan results can be saved in the same manner, and in the same groupings, as other scan results.
Use the Save Scanner Results dialog to name the file.
Select Save and the saved results file will be added to the Select Market Scan Result box.
Once pre-computed scan results are saved in this manner, they can be used by other functions such as scanning a search results and can be used in Systems Testing.
Select a type from the Pre-computed Scans Selection Area and then the Print Results command. The list currently in the Pre-computed Scan Results List at right will be printed.
