Remote Data

Last updated:

Remote Data Tab

The Remote Data tab allows you to adjust the data that is received automatically or on demand into Your SOFTWARE databases.

New Window Settings

The following are the default settings for the Remote Data tab for data on demand services when a new window (new item in work area) is opened:

Update when New Window opened

Check the box to automatically retrieve data each time a new window is opened that contains a symbol for which there is no local data.

The default setting is on (checked).
If this is unchecked, you will have to request updated data using the DoD butn_go-off.gif button:

Data on Demand

The way in which Data-on-Demand is requested can be set in this dialog group, the general settings are at the top. Settings for users with intraday data services are at the bottom:

The default settings are to Automatic, meaning if the criteria is met, it will automatically retrieve the necessary data from the server.

For new charts, or charts which otherwise have no data, you can also adjust the amount of historical data that is loaded.

The default is 36 months (three years), but you can specify the exact number of months or years of historical data to be retrieved.

You can alter the default settings by selecting from the drop down menus.

Ask Me

The alternative request type is ‘Ask Me’, the history can be years or months, the user inserts a number.

Selecting ‘Ask Me’ will result in an Information dialog box appearing when you make a new price chart using a symbol that was never accessed previously, i.e. for which there is no local data.

The dialog will advise that no local data exists, and ask whether you want to retrieve it.

For an existing chart with stale data, an Information dialog box advising that the data is out of date, and asking whether you want to retrieve an update, will display.

Clicking Yes for either will initiate the data download and the fresh data will be displayed in the resulting chart.

Turning off Data-on-Demand Services

Un-check the two options to turn off DoD services.

When unchecked the drop down boxes will be disabled.

The result of turning off the DoD services is that when you open an existing chart the data will not change, (you will not be informed of this).

This will allow you to maintain your existing data. You may want do this if you have changed some of the symbol’s price data and are performing trading scenarios, etc. The data in a current chart can be manually changed by the user and displayed in a chart, refer to the Price Data topic in the Shared Utilities section of this manual for more information.

If you try to create a new chart with the DoD services turned off, you will not be able to create a new chart. Adding a symbol to a Quote Page or Portfolio with the services turned off  will result in an entry with zeros in the price details fields.

Custom Data-on-Demand Settings

You can manually change the number of months (or years) to be retrieved. The new number will become the default for the Custom Data-on-Demand functionality used throughout Your SOFTWARE.

This default setting can also be changed from the Custom Data-on-Demand dialogs in Your SOFTWARE. Changes made to the default time period via the dialogs will be reflected in this dialog as well.

Intraday Data Settings

For users with intraday data services, the amount of minute and tick data can be restricted.

The normal inter-day data settings are controlled by the Custom Data-on-Demand settings, see previous setting, but due to the potential large volume of intraday data, users can limit the amount of intraday data which will be downed for each request.

The default is 10 days of minute data and 2 days of tick data.

To alter these, type in a new value and click OK.

About Data
The About Data section aims to provide you with an understanding of the types of Data you may access through the Hubb Software and the different methods that may be used to access and maintain them.
Data Setup
Your SOFTWARE analyzes markets to help you trade better and provides both Price Data for technical analysis and Fundamental Data for fundamental analysis as well as news and market reports. In order to do this it needs up-to-date, reliable data from a wide range of exchanges, countries and information providers, in a format compatible with Your SOFTWARE.
Data Maintenance
This section contains information and guides on all aspects of maintaining your Hubb Software's Database.
