Symbols Import/Export Wizard

Three actions are available in the wizard. The wizard can import text files (.txt) containing symbols, alternatively all the symbols can be exported either in a symbols-only text file (.txt), or in a Comma-Separated Values file (.csv) containing the symbols, together with all their displayed data.

Importing Symbols

An effective and efficient way of populating Quote Lists, particularly for those users migrating from third party software such as Advanced GET, is to use the Symbol Import Wizard.

The wizard can import text files (.txt) containing symbols. The symbols are loaded into Your SOFTWARE, and if local data exists for the symbol, the symbol and data relating to it can be loaded onto the Quotes list.

If no local data exists, an error message will display in the wizard's summary page.

Using the Import Wizard

Click the Import and Export... command on the Chart Page's Action menu to open the Import/Export Wizard:

Select Import a text file containing Symbols only from the action list and click Next.

Browse... for and select the file to import, it must have the .txt file extension.

Select the markets for which the file contains symbols and click Next.

Note - Although .csv files can be exported, see below, only .txt files can be imported.

After the file is imported the Import Summary dialog will appear, the dialog is divided into three sections:

Symbols to Import

Symbols that correspond to symbols and data in Your SOFTWARE are added, together with the data, to the Quote List and those symbols are summarized in the first box on the Import Summary dialog.

Duplicate Symbols

Symbols which are determined to occur in duplicate exchanges in the data in Your SOFTWARE, are listed in the middle box of the Import Summary dialog. These will have to be manually entered by the user into the Quote List using the Add button, at that time the correct exchange can be identified.

Symbols not Found

Symbols which do not correspond with any symbol or data currently in Your SOFTWARE cannot be added to the Quote List and are listed in the Symbols not found box of the Import Summary dialog.

These symbols may no longer be traded, or they may a spelling error, etc.

Click Finish to close the Import Wizard.

Exporting Symbols and Data

The symbols in a Quotes List Page can be exported as a text file (.txt) or the symbols and all data specified by the current view can be exported in a Comma-Separated Values file (.csv).

The .csv file can be opened in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

Using the Export Wizard

Click the Import and Export... command on the Chart Page's Action menu to open the Import/Export Wizard.

Select either "Export Symbols only to a text file" or "Export all visible columns to a CSV file" from the action list and click Next.

Browse... for and select the folder to export the .txt or .csv file into, enter its File name in the text box and click Save.

Click Finish to export the file and close the Export Wizard.
