Option Graphs Page Controls

The over-all display of the Option Graph work-page is controlled from its function bar.

Each individual pane, and each of its components, also has its own Properties controls. Refer to the Individual Charts Display Controls topic.

This topic deals only with controls that affect all parts of the Options Graph work page at the same time.

Resize Panes

optngraf_resizecursors.gifThe four panes can be resized by using the cursor to drag and drop the borders of the panes to different locations.

When the mouse moves over the edge of a panel, it will change to a double arrow-head pointer.

Hold down the left mouse button and drag the horizontal margins up or down, or the vertical margins left or right.

The horizontal margins of are independent of one another, and the right and left halves of the Options Graph work page can be split at different levels.

The vertical margin is not independent and will apply equally to all panes.

Option Graph Function Bar

The features on the function bar apply to all the panes in the Option Graph equally.

Click on a command in the Function bar to go to its explanation below.

Data Controls

The option currently displayed in the Option Graph work page and its details are displayed in the top right of the function bar.

To change the option, type in a valid code and click the DoD butn_go-off.gif Refresh button . Confirm the option's details in the text boxes on the bar.

Crosshairs tool

The Crosshairs cursor allows users to identify the price or data level and time of a particular point on a graph with great accuracy.

Click on the crosshairs icon in the function bar, and move the mouse cursor over the chart to the point of interest.

The normal cursor will change into the crosshair with two intersecting lines at the point of the cursor, and two text boxes displaying data on the price and time axes:

In the Option Graph work page, the cursor appears in all four panes at the same time, always at the same date.

This can be particularly useful in analyzing relationships between the various different analytics displayed on the work page.

Interpretation can be improved if the Synchronize Spacing feature is also applied, see below for more details.

The cross hairs display, and the display of the text boxes, can be customized by users. To open the Configure Crosshairs dialog box, right mouse click anywhere on the work page to open the General Parameters dialog box, and select Crosshairs Properties.

The Properties are the same as for any chart's crosshairs function, for more details refer to the Crosshairs Properties topic in the Charts section.

Data Window

chrtwrk_datawindowuse.gifThe Option Graph's floating Data Window is very similar to that found in Your SOFTWARE's price charts.

The main difference is that on the Option Graph, the one data window services all four panes.

Click on the Data Window icon in the function bar to display the pop-up window.

The data displayed will be for the base series in the pane.

As the cursor is moved to a different pane, the data types will change to the data types that are used to generate the base series in that pane. And as the cursor is moved along the time axis, the data displayed will change to show the data for the point at which the cursor is located.

For more details on the data displayed, and how to customize the background and font colors, refer to the Floating Data Window topic in the Charts section.

Option Model

Click on the Option Model icon butn_optn_model.gif to open the Option Model dialog box.

From this dialog the option pricing model can be set, this will affect implied volatility calculations as well as the model price and Greeks.

For more information on the two Models, and the various settings that can be made for them, refer to the Option Model topic of this Help.

Note - Any changes in the Option Model dialog box has a global affect on Option calculations throughout Your SOFTWARE.

Synchronize Spacing

The Synchronize Spacing check-box lets you choose whether or not you want to synchronize the scales for the four option charts.

When this option is selected, any adjustments to the date scale you make on one chart will be synchronized across all four charts. If you wish to adjust the scale of a single chart, simply un-check this check box.

By default, Synchronize Spacing is enabled. This means that all of the charts use the same spacing. If you adjust the spacing on one of the charts, all of the other charts' spacing will also be adjusted.

If you want to adjust the spacing of only one chart, un-check Synchronize Spacing then use the arrow buttons on the lower right corner of each chart, or drag with the mouse if the chart is un-locked, to adjust the date scale for that chart.

When the synchronization is turned back on, it will still work but the chart's time axis will not be aligned. To realign all the panes, select Reset Scales for all the charts.
