List Selection Dialog Box

Your SOFTWARE also has some objects that are saved internally, rather than as files in the Windows operating system’s file management regime, refer to the File Selector Dialog Box help topic.

Your SOFTWARE has a standard formula for organizing these potentially large numbers of similar objects into groups and lists: the List Selection dialog box.

Example - Option Strategies Selection Box

An example of a typical Your SOFTWARE List Selection box is the Option Strategies selection dialog box:

The objective of all Software List Selection dialog boxes is to provide a central location where all similar objects can be easily located and centrally managed. The dialog box's title bar will identify what type of objects the dialog box is managing.

The principle method of managing the large number of similar items is to create a number of groups, and then assign the individual objects to those groups.

In the case of the quote pages example, all saved quote pages, as well as all predefined quote pages and groups, are accessible through the Option Strategies Selection box, and all quote pages can be opened, grouped, reassigned to a new group, renamed, deleted, etc. from this dialog.

Groups List

The groups in the list are user defined.

Initially new objects are placed in a single, un-named group.

Click the Add Group button to create a new group. The user is prompted to enter a recognizable name:

Click OK and the new group will be added to the list.

Populating the Group

The user must drag and drop the individual objects into each group:

First select the individual object, in this example the PRU Short Straddle option strategy.

As you begin to drag the selected object, the cursor will change to a target.

Roll the cursor over the groups in the Group List, a gray line will identify which group the item can be dropped into.

When the correct group is highlighted, release the mouse button and drop the object into its new group.

View Groups

To view the contents of each list, select the group and single mouse click. The contents of the group will display in the window on the right.

A scroll bar will appear on the left margin of the window if the list is too big to be displayed.

Remove Groups from List

Only empty groups can be deleted.

First select the Group to display its contents.

Next drag and drop all the individual objects into other groups, or delete each object using the Delete list management button.

When the group is empty, the Delete Group button will become active.

Click the Delete Group button to remove the group from the list.

Individual Objects (Analysis Work Pages) List

The individual objects are managed in the list in the window on the right.

The list management command buttons manage the unique attributes of each object.

Select an object in the list, and then a command button to do the following:

This will launch the selected object in the work area.

The names of individual objects, and the contents of the details text boxes which also appear in the list, can be edited using the Rename command button:

To remove an object from a list, select it and click Delete.

A confirmation dialog will appear confirming that you want to permanently remove the object from Your SOFTWARE, click Yes to continue with the deletion.
