Fundamental Database Maintenance

fundaicon34.gifThe Fundamental Data database is a large database in which large amounts of data are constantly being added and deleted.

Deleting data creates space for new data, but often new data must be split between a number of locations. When that data is deleted, new data will be put into those locations and often into other locations. Over time the data files become fragmented, i.e. spread over a number of locations in the database.

A fragmented database will run substantially slower than a defragmented one.

Running the Fundamental Database Maintenance tool will first defragment the database and then reconstitute the database with all its current data, then compress the database for maximum efficiency in the future.

Users should run the Fundamental Database Maintenance every 2-3 months.

For more information, go to the Fundamental Database Maintenance topic.

Backup/Restore Wizard

The Backup / Restore Wizard allows the user to backup or restore data files. The Wizard has three options, Create new backup file, restore existing backup file, or maintain existing backup.

For more information, refer to the Backup / Restore Wizard Help topic.
