Fundamental Data Display

Fundamental data primarily comes from financial statements and other documentation required to be produced by the rules of the Exchange that they are traded on or by legislation or regulations imposed by the Government or Governments of the markets in which the companies trade.

Depending on the location and each company's situation, reports can be prepared and filed at different intervals.

For example, in the United States all public companies must file with the Securities and Exchange Commission a comprehensive report of a company's performance that includes all relevant information regarding their financial position. A quarterly report, known as a 10-Q is due 35 days  after each of the first three fiscal quarters. After the fourth quarter the annual 10-K must be filed within 60 days after the end of the fiscal year.

Typically, the 10-K contains much more detail than the annual report whose content is prescribed by the exchange on which the company is traded. The 10-K includes information such as company history, organizational structure, equity, holdings, earnings per share, subsidiaries, etc.

The 10-Q and10-K forms must be submitted on time, and the information should be available to all interested parties.

In Australia public companies are also required by the exchange's rules and governmental legislation and regulation to file comprehensive financial statements. For large, publicly owned companies these are on an annual and half-yearly basis.

Reported / Current Fundamental Data

Reported Fundamental Data is information provided companies in their financial statements. Some of the Reported Fundamental Data are ratios calculated at the time the data was reported by the company.

Often one or more components of the ratio's equation will consist of Price Data. When this is the case, Your SOFTWARE can supply up-to-date Price Data and recalculate the Reported Data figure as the actual Current Fundamental Data value.

Current Fundamental Data values are colored green on Fundamentals work pages:

In the above example, some of the Key Figure labels are colored green in order to identify the fundamental data types that use Current Data (i.e. current market price data is used in calculating the ratio) in their calculations, the others are Reported Data.

Display Controls for Tables and Graphs

Fundamental Data can be displayed in two broad manners: Annual and Interim

The setting can be toggled between each on the Fundamental tabbed page of the Application Settings dialog box:

Annual Display

When Annual data is selected, only annual summaries of all the data are displayed.

In this example the Price / Earnings ratio is displayed in the Ratio Analysis work page in the Annual setting:

The Report Year is indicated as is its value and the Average value for the company's industry division.

Interim Display

When Interim data is selected, each quarterly (or half-yearly) result is displayed.

In this example the Price / Earnings ratio is displayed in the Ratio Analysis work page using the Interim setting:

The Report Year and Quarter (q1, q2, q3 or q4)is indicated together with the period start and end date as well as the interim's value.

3D / Flat Display

Note that the graphs are displayed as 3D.

This chart setting only applies to Fundamental Data charts.

Refer to the Fundamental tabbed page's topic for more information on this setting.

Number of Years

The number of years of data that are displayed by default is also set in the Fundamental tabbed page of the Application Settings dialog box.

The Default is 5 years.

Refer to the Fundamental tabbed page's topic for more information on this setting.
