Price Axis Properties

The Price Axis can be displayed on either the right (the Default setting) or left border of the chart page. The position of its display is controlled by the Chart Properties Dialog box. Either or both can also be set to be hidden.

To Edit the properties of a Price Axis, first place the cursor over the price axis, and then either single right mouse click and select Left or Right Price Axis Properties from the pop-up menu, or double-click with your left mouse button.

The appropriate dialog box will be displayed for the axis that you have selected:

Properties tabbed page

The Properties tabbed page controls the display of the date display along the indicated side of the chart page, and the horizontal price grid lines superimposed on the chart itself.

Display Control

The display of either can be toggled on or off by checking/un-checking the check-box.

Width of Price Column

The width of the column in which the Price details are displayed is controlled by the Width text box. Type in a number of pixels or use the up/down controls to resize the column's width.

Grid Color / Style

The color and style can be selected for the vertical lines that display on the chart page.

Select a color from the drop-down color palette, or create a new color using the custom color picker.

The line styles available include Solid, Dotted, or Dashes

Font tabbed page

The font for the display of prices is controlled by the Font tabbed page.

The chart's current font can be selected, or a special font exclusively of the month's display can be created.

Font type, style, and size can be altered by selecting from each text box's drop-down menu.

Select a color from the drop-down color palette, or create a new color using the custom color picker.

Defaults button

The changes made can be saved as the default for all new charts by clicking the Defaults button and using the standard default setting procedure.

Once you have made any changes, click on OK to save, or Cancel to discard any changes.

Use Same Axis for Multiple Symbols

The same axis can be used for multiple instruments. This helps align overlaid graphs and avoids the confusion caused by slightly different price scales.

To align an overlaid chart, select the overlaid chart and right mouse click, and select Line Properties from the pop-up menu:

The Series Properties dialog box will appear, select the Scale Settings tab:

Select Link to Another Series Price Scale, and pick the current graph whose price axis you want to link to.

It is suggested that you link to the base symbol, this cannot be deleted. Click OK and the selected overlaid graph will be redrawn over the Linked Chart's price scale.

In order for this display to be useful, it is recommended that only charts will similar prices be assigned the same price axis. For example, if you have a stock with a price of $90.50 sharing a price axis with a stock with a price of $2.42 you will display two rather flat lines, quite far away from each other.

Note - All indicators and data dependent tools will use the base symbol's data, regardless of what other symbols use the same price axis.
