Add Chart Objects

Adding Objects to Charts

Your SOFTWARE allows you to add a number of objects to the chart to aid interpretation and analysis.

Three broad groups of objects are available:

Each group has its own link from the Function Bar, and each has its own Access Panel and Floating Palette from which any of their objects can be applied to the chart.

All objects from any of the 3 groups can be added into the Favorites Access Panel.

Data Based Objects

Some objects, particularly those in the Indicators and Hi-Lites group, use data from the base series to calculate their appearance on, or in relation to, the base series chart. Only the base series data can be used to calculate these objects. These types of objects cannot be applied to overlaid price charts.

Indicators are either superimposed over the price chart, or they are created in their own indicator window below the price chart. Hi-Lites are always superimposed on the chart.

Indicators and Hi-Lites can be toggled on or off from their access panels or floating palettes.

User Positioned Objects

Other objects, particularly those in the Drawing Tools group, are not related to the price data and can be placed anywhere on the price chart that the user chooses.

Objects which are positioned on the chart by users can generally be locked into place so that they are not accidentally moved.

Function Bar

The Price Chart's Function Bar contains icons for Drawing Tools, Indicators, Hi-Lites and Favorites:

Roll the cursor over each icon and its tool-tip will appear.

Click the icon to open its Access Panel, see next section.

Objects can be accessed and applied from each Access Panel, from there the group's Floating Palette can be detached.

Click on any of the icons in the Function Bar to open its access panel in the Page Monitor bar.

Access Panels

Click on one of the chart object group's icons in the price chart's function bar and the Access Panel for that group will open in the Page Monitor bar on the right margin of the screen. If the Page Monitor was closed, it will be opened.

For example, click the Indicators icon butn_indicators.gif to open the Indicators Access Panel:

All of the access panels for each of the three object groupings, Drawing Tools, Indicators, Hi-Lites, (and any that have also been copied into Favorites) act in the same manner.

The access panels for the Drawing Tools and Indicators object groupings (and any that have also been copied into Favorites) act in the same manner.

Access panels contain small icons or letters representing each object.

Apply from the Access Panel

Scroll through the access panel’s list and find the object you wish to apply, when the mouse rolls over an indicator, the icon or letters is highlighted in blue, the full name of the object appears as a tool-tip and the full name of the object appears in the lower text box.

Click on the object icon to apply the item to the chart.

Indicators and Hi-Lites that are applied to a chart will retain the blue highlighting. To remove them from the chart, click on the highlighted icon to toggle the indicator off. These object can only be applied once to each chart.

Drawing Tools can be applied many times to each chart. Click on a Drawing Tool's icon to insert and instance of it onto the chart. Users can add as many instances of the same Drawing Tool object as they want. There is not toggle function for the drawing tool access panel.

Icons in the Favorites Access Panel retain the same functionality as they did in their original panels.

Detaching Access Panels

All four access panels can be detached from the Page Monitor Bar and be positioned over the price chart work area.

The access panels will operate in the same manner whether they are docked in the Page Monitor or floating above the work area.

Charting Palettes

Alternatively, you can detach a floating Palette, from each Access Panel (except the Favorites).

Right mouse-click on the access panel and select Detach from the pop-up submenu.

The Floating Palette containing all the objects included in that access panel will appear.

By default the list includes all available objects.

The floating palette's list can be customized and re-configured by the user.

Applying Objects from a Floating Palette

In a manner similar to the access panel, Indicator and Hi-Lite objects can be toggled on or off. When an object has been applied to the chart its button is highlighted in blue . Clicking on the object's name toggles between applying the object to the chart, and removing it from the chart.

Some indicators are sufficiently related to the chart display to be able to be superimposed on the chart itself, while others use the base symbol's data to create autonomous graphics, with little or no relationship to the appearance of the instrument's chart, are displayed in individual charts under the base symbols chart.

As mentioned previously, Drawing Tool objects can be applied to each chart as many time as required, and they do not have the toggle functionality.
