Broker Account View

To open the Broker Account management window, click the Broker Account View command from the Broking drop-down menu on the main toolbar.

The Broker Account View feature allows users to monitor and maintain trade orders and account activity directly within Your SOFTWARE. When invoked by the user, the screen opens and is split into five main sections:

  1. Broker View Function Bar,
  2. Account Balances,
  3. Order Management,
  4. Asset Allocation Symbols, and
  5. Positions

The four main sections are shown on the main screen below.

Note: All figures displayed within this screen come directly from the Third Party Broker system of the selected account and the information and figures displayed will vary according to the details provided by the external broker.

Broker View Function Bar

The Broker View Function Bar is located just above the Account Balances window and allows the user to select the particular account to view, set the currency of the account being analysed and set the date from which to display the account activity.

The Select an Account… dropdown is used to select the particular broker account to view. Multiple broker accounts can be setup within Your SOFTWARE and each valid account will be displayed in the dropdown box as shown below.

If no accounts have been setup, Define new Account… can be selected which will take users to the Broker Account Configuration process. Selecting an existing account will open the order and position details and display them on the screen. For example, selecting the optionsXpress – OX Account will open and display all the order and trade details associated with that broker account.

The default currency of the account opened will also be displayed as well as the ability to change the Display Orders Since date via the date picker dropdown menu. In the screen below, a default currency of USD is displayed and a Display Date of 1st March, 2012 has been selected which will display all trading and account activity from the 1st March, 2012 to the current date.

Account Balances

The Account Balances window displays all the Cash, Buying Power and Margin requirements associated with the broker account.

Note: The figures displayed within this screen come directly from the Third Party Broker and the figures will vary according to the details provided by the broker.

Order Management

The Order Management window displays all the details associated with orders and account activity. It is split into 2 or 3 tabs:

  1. Open Orders,
  2. Order History, and
  3. Account Activity (Only for OptionsXPress Accounts)
Open Orders

The Open Orders tab displays all outstanding trades that are in a pending state that are waiting to be executed in a market. The various trade details displayed will vary according to the details provided by the Third Party Broker.

The Open Orders tab is typically used once a trade analysis is completed and a trade order is sent through the selected Broker account. An example would be for option traders completing a Trade Analysis and sending a Buy order through to a selected account, as shown below.

The Option trade details are displayed in the Open Orders window. Take note of the Status field which show the trade is In Market, meaning it is waiting to be executed.

If orders have not been filled, there are several actions that can be performed if the user changes their mind about the trade. Open orders can be Cancelled or Amended via the Open Orders screen. This can be done by highlighting/selecting the order to be modified and then right mouse clicking to open the pop-up menu.

Clicking the Cancel Order command will open the Order Cancellation ticket with the Submit button enabled. Clicking the Submit button will send the order to the external Broker system for cancelling as shown below.

If the order has not been executed and the cancellation was successful, a valid receipt number will be returned and displayed in the Order Cancellation window.

Closing the Order Cancellation will take the user back to the Open Orders screen where the open trade is cancelled and removed. Clicking on the Order History tab will show the trade details and verification that the trade order was cancelled.

Clicking the Amend Order command will reopen the trade order ticket and allow the user to modify the trade details. Submitting the new trade details will update the current order and send it through to the broker platform for execution similar to the Cancel Order operation. The trade details in the Open Orders screen will also be updated.

Order History

The Order History tab displays all trading activity that has occurred from the selected Display Orders Since date until the Current Date. Once again, this information will come directly from the Third Party broker system.

Looking at the first entry in the Order History table above, it is the same Option trade that was cancelled from the previous Open Orders section. The Status has been changed from In Market to Cancelled and the Order ID matches the Order ID sent from the original trade ticket.

All orders that have been sent through the broker system after the Display Orders Since date will be shown in this tab for the selected account.

Account Activity (Only for OptionsXpress Accounts)

The Account Activity tab displays all Account and Corporate Activity that has occurred for all currently held positions from the selected Display Orders Since date until the Current Date. It shows all account activity such as Buys, Sells, Account Interest, etc. It also shows all corporate activities on the underlying instrument that may affect open positions, such as Dividends, Stock Splits and any corporate type activity on the underlying stock. Once again, this information will come directly from the Third Party broker system.

Asset Allocation Symbols

The Asset Allocation Symbols section contains a pie chart showing the relative size of holdings for each symbol. i.e. the value as a percentage of each type of instrument held in the selected Broker Account. Each pie chart has a colour coded legend below it.

Right mouse clicking on a particular holding segment will open the pop-up menu. From here the user has the choice to Buy, Sell, Close Position or open Price Chart for the particular instrument.

The Buy or Sell commands will open an Order Ticket with the details for the underlying instrument to trade.

The Close Position command will open an Order Ticket that will have the details to close out the entire position at Market price.

The Price Chart for command will open the stock price chart for the selected instrument.

Positions

The Positions window shows a table consisting of all the securities or instruments that are currently open and held in the selected Broker account.

Each symbol has a summary line in which the Market, Symbol, Description, Currency and Holding percentage are displayed. Valuation figures such as Last Price, Value and Profit/Loss of each position are also displayed.

Right mouse clicking on a particular symbol will open the pop-up menu. From here the user has the choice to Buy, Sell, Close Position or open Price Chart for the particular instrument. The same menu as for the Asset Allocation Symbols window.

The Buy or Sell commands will open an Order Ticket with the details for the underlying instrument to trade.

The Close Position command will open an Order Ticket that will have the details to close out the entire position at Market price.

The Price Chart for command will open the stock price chart for the selected instrument.
